Jennifer Brewer Stone | Original Oil Painting on Panel | 24x24" | 2015*
For "Tulip & Jellyfish Embrace", I used hard Masonite board underneath with a wooden cradled edge. I used molding paste to create the texture around the edge.
This is part of a whole series I'm doing with molding paste texture, exploring different abstract patterns and natural forms. This is the first piece where I've combined the molding paste with my hyperrealistic painting style.
In this piece I wanted to create a surreal feeling, and show that the plants and animals I use are real, but that how they are combined is out of my imagination. I'm obsessed with bright color, transparency, awe, and fantastical things that are real, and this piece brings together all of those elements. I also love the delicacy of the jellyfish tentacles, cradling the flower head in a dangerous but beautiful web.
