This piece is one of three experiments I created to better understand how to incorporate pins floating in resin, and to test for larger pieces incorporating constellations. It's the only piece where I used wire; the other two have pins. I used a piece of foam core to keep all the pins upright and poured the resin in through a hole and then let it harden. That was the underlayer; I then added a second layer of thick resin to create the swirling colors you see, and a last clear layer of resin to spill out over the top and create a protective, glossy coating over the whole piece including the sides. The wire on top is silver wire. It took some experimentation to find pins sturdy enough to hold up to having wire bent around them.
